BERBER LODGE

"The lodge is a love story between the owner and the village of Oumnass and it’s inhabitants. Romain Michel Meniere is a French-Swiss interior designer living in Morocco since 2002. He worked and participated in a number of projects such as Bab Ourika, Riad Mena And Beyond, Nomad Coffee and many other private projects. With his architect friends from Studio KO Karl Fournier and Olivier Marty and Landscape designer Arnaud Casaus, Romain opened his own place after having a great variety of experiences in hospitality and events industry. The goal was to discover the Berber culture, their customs, norms, craftsmanship and architecture.nnThe lodge is inspired by traditional Berber architecture. It was built on an old Olive Garden using local resources and craftsmen. Walls have been built with the garden’s earth to create adobe briques. All the old olive trees have been preserved. Local trees have been used to create ceiling (Eucalyptus, Atlas Cedar and wild bamboos).nThe terra-cotta tiles were locally custom made in a neighbor village for Berber Lodge. The decoration is a mixed between local craftsmanship such as rattan furniture, local antics (bride’s chest) or pottery and a personal collection of 20th century design furniture found in Morocco or from Family.n."n
